Font - Very long story short.. My boss continually denied my requests for mental health days (allowed in Aus), even though I had valid reason and doctors certificates etc.
  • 03
Font - A few months ago I spent 4 days with 0 sleep due to insomnia and the stress of the job while having an unsupportive boss.
  • 04
Font - I was a mess and still being denied leave.
  • 05
Font - I messaged him one morning and explained I couldn't come into work, because I was extremely tired and run down. I even supplied a doctors certificate.
  • 06
Smile - He basically said "too bad, I don't care, you HAVE to come in, we are short staffed & need you" I did as he asked.
  • 07
Rectangle - I had a car accident on the way to work because I fell asleep at the wheel.
  • 08
Font - In the hospital my cortisol levels were through the roof, I had a broken nose and bashed up face from the airbags, and best of all, the doctor instructed I take 4 weeks leave to recover. My boss was furious.
  • 09
Font - He asked me "what the hell happened?!" And I replied, "I was following your instructions to come in, despite asking for leave multiple times and it being denied"

Font - Might be a simple story compared to the others on this sub but man it felt good throwing my misfortune into his face.

Font - Pushmonk 36 min. ago I feel like going down the legal route will just cost me money and won't be with it unfortunately. Well, you would most likely have a nice payout heading your way, but ALSO you ignoring this means this guy is going to keep doing it to other people.

Font - smurfing 2 hr. ago FYI your boss doesn't get to deny sick leave in Australia. You only need to provide a medical certificate or statutory declaration. Please don't let them bully you in future. I'm not sure if you're casual or permanent, but if casual you could receive less hours in future.

Font - ThemBOners 57 min. ago Dude they literally caused you injuries, a hospital stay, and your job. Talk to a lawyer at least.

Font - Angdrambor 1 hr. ago the job collapsed with out them I've seen it happen, and it's deeply hilarious.

Font - Carb__Lord 1 hr. ago I also suffer from insomnia that impacts my life and I want to say this as gently as possible. Your lack of spine is going to get you or someone else killed. You need help to care and advocate for yourself. Your boss is both ineffectual and morally bankrupt. Just because they are your "superior" doesn't mean they know whats best for you. Please rest and learn how to avoid this in the future.

Font - 1moreOz. 51 min. ago edited 29 min. ago I mean this take is a stretch....op knew their personal situation and should have just went to sleep instead of driving to work for a shit boss.... Driving with no sleep is equal to driving drunk. Need some accountability here. I agree with legal route for the firing for sure though

Font - AE_Phoenix . 26 min. ago. edited 5 min. ago OP is being coerced into doing so by their boss. OP is known to be vulnerable to coercion (lack of sleep and needing to take time off for mental health). There's not really a valid way to spin that as OP's fault.

Font - DisGruntled Draftsman 2 hr. ago I hate victim blaming and shaming, but at some point you have to take responsibility for what happened as well. You can say no. Perhaps this is indicative of the stress you are under but the way it seems you are happy that you got hurt to hurt your boss. And at any point you could have said no and stopped immediately. That's not indicative of stress, that's something internal that you need to address.
